If you are pregnant or have just given birth, you can use the services of a midwife.

In statutory health insurance, you are entitled to midwifery assistance during pregnancy, during and after childbirth, in addition to the right to medical care. Midwifery assistance includes services during pregnancy and childbirth provided by a state-certified and recognized midwife or maternity nurse. The provision of services is regulated in the midwife assistance contract.
Midwifery services include:

• Maternity care and maternity care services
• obstetrics
• Postpartum benefits up to 12 weeks after birth and
• other services, such as advice for the mother in the event of breastfeeding difficulties or post-natal gymnastics in the case of instruction in the group

You can take advantage of the midwife's help during pregnancy and up to 12 weeks after the birth (exception: advising the mother if she is having difficulties breastfeeding or if the baby has feeding problems).
The midwife's help is made available to you as a benefit in kind, ie the midwives settle accounts directly with the health insurance companies. Only services that are regulated in the midwife remuneration list can be billed.
Your insured children are also entitled to midwifery assistance if they cannot be cared for by you, e.g. B. in the event of adoption, death or absence due to illness.
If you have private health insurance, you should clarify with your insurance company whether the costs will be covered before you make use of the service.
