If your address has changed after you have moved, for example, you must have your new address changed on your identity card.

The change of address must be implemented with the help of an address sticker.

Even if you move abroad and no longer have an address in Germany, your identity card must be changed. The address label then states that you no longer have an address in Germany.

Erforderliche Unterlagen

  • Valid ID
  • Current official confirmation of registration
  • In the event of an electronic change of address: valid electronic ID card with activated online ID function including personal identification number (PIN)

  • Your identity card is valid.
  • You have already registered with your new address at your responsible location for residents' affairs.

Verfahrensablauf

If you apply for a change of address in person:
  • You arrange a personal appointment at the office responsible for you for resident affairs
  • You report in person to the office responsible for you for resident affairs.
  • You present your valid identity card and your official confirmation of registration.
  • Hamburg Service sticks an official address sticker with your new address over the old address on your identity card.
  • You can authorize another person in writing to change your address at your responsible office for residents' affairs in the identity card.
When applying for a change of address online:
  • You call up the online service.
  • You log in to the online service with your user account.
  • You enter all the required data online.
  • Hamburg Service will send you an address label with your new address by post.
  • Stick the address sticker with your new address over the old address on your identity card.

Bearbeitungsdauer

The processing time is about 5 minutes.
