If you have been diagnosed with a degree of disability of at least 50, you can apply for a severely disabled person's ID card to be issued. Even if your severely disabled ID card expires or you have lost it, you can apply for a new one.
If your degree of disability is determined to be at least 50, you can apply for a severely disabled person's pass.
This is issued for a limited period of up to five years or indefinitely, depending on the chance of your health improving.
If you are a severely disabled person whose residence permit is limited, the card can only be issued for as long as the residence permit is valid.
The severely handicapped ID allows you to prove that you are severely handicapped and indicates any particular health restrictions. This allows you to claim special rights and corresponding compensation for disadvantages.
In the event of expiration, loss or changes to other important data, you must apply for a new issue of the severely disabled pass.
This is issued for a limited period of up to five years or indefinitely, depending on the chance of your health improving.

You can only apply for a severely disabled person's pass if you have previously been diagnosed with a degree of disability of at least 50.
If you apply to the competent authority to have your disability determined, you will automatically be issued with a disabled person's pass if the degree of disability is determined to be at least 50, provided that they already have a passport photo of you.
If that shouldn't be the case,
You must send a photo/passport photo of yourself to the responsible office for the issue. The competent authority checks the requirements for issuing the severely disabled person's pass.
If the requirements are met, they will issue a (new) severely disabled ID card and send you the ID card.
If you apply to the competent authority to have your disability determined, you will automatically be issued with a disabled person's pass if the degree of disability is determined to be at least 50, provided that they already have a passport photo of you.
If that shouldn't be the case,
- However, you already have a notice of assessment or a corresponding administrative or court decision with a degree of disability of at least 50
- or in the event of loss, damage or expiry of your existing severely disabled pass,
You must send a photo/passport photo of yourself to the responsible office for the issue. The competent authority checks the requirements for issuing the severely disabled person's pass.
If the requirements are met, they will issue a (new) severely disabled ID card and send you the ID card.
The processing time depends, among other things, on how quickly the treating doctors and hospitals respond. The average processing time is 4 months.
A determination is made from the date of receipt of the initial application. Exception: Retrospective determination (before the application date) upon submission of a corresponding proof of income tax by means of a tax assessment or proof of salary.
