You will receive a certificate confirming the effect of your application if a decision on your requested residence permit cannot yet be made, for example because

• Documents are missing or the immigration file is not available,
• an ordered electronic residence permit (eAT) cannot be issued before the expiry of the previous residence permit or
• the outcome of criminal proceedings must be awaited.

The fictitious certificate is a temporary extension of your existing residence permit for 3 to 6 months with conditions until a decision has been made on your requested residence permit.

• Passport or passport replacement

• Application for a residence permit or application for extension of an existing residence permit
• Proof of primary residence in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg
  • Registration confirmation or
  • rental contract

You have applied for an electronic residence permit or the extension of your existing residence permit.

At the time of application, you have

• a valid residence permit (residence permit or national long-term visa of category D) or
• may legally stay in the federal territory without a visa because your nationality entitles you to do so.

If you hold a Schengen short-stay visa (category C), you cannot obtain a fictitious certificate.

Fees apply according to the Residence Ordinance:

• Adults: 13.00 EUR
• Minors: 6.50 EUR

If you receive public benefits under Social Security Code II or XII, you may be exempt from the fees.
