In order to transport passengers commercially, a driver's license for passenger transport (passenger transport license) is required.

Volltext

The so-called driver's license for passenger transport is required for the commercial transport of people. You need this in addition to your general driver's license.
You do not need a separate driver's license for passenger transport for the category D driver's license.

Erforderliche Unterlagen

  • a valid identity card or passport with current registration confirmation
  • a German EU card driving license (issue date from January 19, 2013)
  • an ophthalmological report in accordance with Appendix 6.2 of the Driving License Ordinance (FeV) not older than two years
  • a medical report in accordance with Appendix 5.1 FeV not older than one year
  • a medical report in accordance with Appendix 5.2 FeV is not older than one year (occupational or company doctor)
  • a certificate of good conduct that is not older than three months at the time of application (feature O for official purposes, to be applied for at the registration authority)
  • the appointment confirmation
Additionally when applying for an ambulance:
  • Proof of participation in first aid training

  • a German category B driver's license in the format of the new EU card driver's license (date of issue from 19 January 2013). If your driver's license was issued before this date, you must first exchange it in the LBV. You must also exchange a foreign driving license for a German one beforehand.
  • Main residence in Hamburg
  • Minimum age of 21 years (for ambulances 19 years)
  • You have held a category B driving license for at least two years within the last five years (one year is sufficient for ambulances)

Kosten

The application costs EUR 44.20.
If the old driving license also has to be exchanged for the EU driving license card, additional fees of between EUR 25.30 and EUR 43.20 are incurred. The exact sum of the exchange costs can only be determined after viewing the complete documents. The basis for the fee amount is the fee schedule for road traffic measures (GebOSt).

Verfahrensablauf

Book an appointment online in advance. Bring all required documents with you. Your request will be processed on site.
The application will be filled out during your on-site appointment. If you have all the necessary documents and if you meet the requirements, you will be issued with a driver's license for passenger transport immediately.

Bearbeitungsdauer

Usually immediately.

Frist

The driver's license for passenger transport is currently issued for a maximum of three years (until there is a regulation on the part of the legislator on the proof of the technical qualification test).
This should be extended in good time (four to six weeks before the end of the period of validity).

Hinweise

The application can be submitted at the LBV locations in Central and North.
Occupational and company physicians for examinations in accordance with Annex 5 FeV can be requested from the Medical Association.
If you still have an old driving license (issue date before January 19, 2013), you must exchange it for a new EU card driving license in a separate appointment. For more information, see “Links.”
A driver's license to transport passengers is not required for:

1. Ambulances of the Bundeswehr, the Federal Police, the police as well as the troops and civilian entourage of the other contracting states to the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO),
2. Civil protection ambulances if they are used for their purpose,
3. Ambulances from fire departments and rescue services recognized under state law.
