If you want to acquire a driver's license for the first time, you must first submit an application to the driver's license authority. As a rule, the necessary documents can be handed in at the driving school.
The applicant must have their main place of residence in Hamburg and be no earlier than six months before reaching the minimum age when applying.

• a valid identity card or passport with current registration confirmation
• a biometric passport photo 35 x 45 millimeters
• a certificate of participation in a first aid training course
• an eye test (A / B classes); Validity: a maximum of two years from the date of issue
• Medical reports for C / D classes (family doctor or occupational traffic physician for D classes); Validity: max. 1 year from the date of issue
• Certificate of good conduct for D classes (application to the responsible registration office)
• the appointment confirmation

• the main residence of the applicant is in Hamburg
• Submit your application six months before you reach the minimum age at the earliest
• The application can be made before the lesson in the driving school. The driver's license is only issued after the test has been passed.

Validity of driving licenses
Driving licenses issued after January 19, 2013 are valid for 15 years. The 15 year time limit only applies to the document. Classes retain their validity, with the exception of the C and D classes.
