Are you receiving integration assistance and are you able to handle money?
You can convert your lump sum benefit into a cash benefit and purchase your own support.

With a personal budget, a benefit in kind (integration assistance) is converted into a cash benefit. Compliance with the performance targets is ensured through a target agreement with the budget recipients. This target agreement and the subsequent review in budget conferences is carried out by the personal budget department.

• A written application for the granting of integration assistance benefits.
• The completed SGB IX checklist. You can print out the checklist blank, fill it out by hand and sign it.
• The completed declaration SGB IX.
• Proof of current residence permit/identity card
• Medical documents (e.g. certificates, clinical reports, expert opinions, reports from the medical service of the health insurance company, assessment notice, severely disabled person’s card) – if available
• Carer ID – if available
• A waiver of confidentiality.

• Entitlement to integration assistance or supplementary care assistance,
• Ability to manage budget independently or with support.

• Receipt of the application.
• Review and processing of the application.
• Forwarding to the medical specialist service. Here, membership of the group of people according to Section 99 of the Social Code (SGB) IX in conjunction with Section 53 of the SGB XII in the version of December 31, 2019 is determined.
• Once the group of people has been determined, the application is forwarded to the Social Pedagogical Service - Personal Budget Department. A budget conference is held here with the applicant in which the target agreements are recorded. An approval is then given.
• The approval of integration assistance benefits under SGB IX and, if applicable, the approval of subsistence benefits under SGB XII is then carried out by the benefits law specialist service.

People with disabilities and those at risk of disability who are registered as having their main residence in Hamburg apply for their personal budget at the relevant district office (see link Integration Assistance). The personal budget is not a new benefit, but simply a different form of granting and providing benefits. It is provided in the form of a cash benefit or as a voucher. The individual support requirement can be tailored to suit individual needs using the personal budget. The affected person decides for themselves who will support them, in what form and to what extent. The personal budget can not only include benefits from one provider (cross-provider personal budget)
