The district administrations and independent cities can nominate people, especially from the fire departments, to the government for the award of the Cross of the Cross. The Cross of the Cross is primarily intended to honor special commitment to fires or technical assistance.
The Pin Cross is awarded for special services to the fire department or in fighting fires or other emergencies. A strict standard must be applied when assessing the proposals for the award. The award is generally only presented every two years.
The pin cross is generally presented to the recipient together with a pin, a smaller version of the ribbon buckle and the award certificate by the District President.
The nominees must have rendered outstanding services to the fire department or in fighting fires or other emergencies, but many years of membership of a fire department is not sufficient.
The Pin Cross may not be awarded as long as there is an entry for the person in an unrestricted search of the Federal Central Register due to a legally binding conviction. Those to be honored must also be worthy of an award based on their other conduct.
The governments shall request the district administrative authorities to submit proposals for the awarding of the Pin Cross. After hearing the responsible chairman of the district fire brigade association, they select suitable proposals and submit them to the State Ministry of the Interior, Sport and Integration.
In addition, the Landesfeuerwehrverband Bayern e. V. may also submit up to two proposals for the awarding of the Pin Cross directly to the State Ministry of the Interior, Sport and Integration.
