The scholarship program is aimed at medical students who later complete their specialist training in rural areas and then work in rural areas for at least five years.
Purpose and object of the funding
In the coming years, due to demographic change, many doctors in private practice will be looking for a successor or a practice partner. This offers young doctors in particular a wide range of career prospects and opportunities to set up a practice.
The aim of the funding program is to motivate medical students to work in rural areas at an early stage in order to be able to guarantee high-quality medical care that is as close to home as possible in the future.
Eligible applicants
Eligible applicants are students of human medicine at a German university or a university of a member state of the European Union or a state with which there is freedom to provide services or freedom of establishment in the higher education sector on the basis of an agreement with at least one cooperation partner in Bavaria, which has been examined and recognized in accordance with the assessment procedure pursuant to Art. 112 para. 1 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG).
This does not apply to students who have been awarded a place via the Bavarian rural doctor quota procedure or a place via the quota for the Bavarian Public Health Service in accordance with the Bavarian Rural and Medical Officers Act.
Type and amount of funding
Funding up to the end of medical studies amounts to 600 euros per month for a maximum of 48 months.
Eligible expenses are living expenses incurred in connection with the studies. Instead of the actual expenses incurred in each individual case, the following flat-rate costs will be applied:
- € 250 per month for housing,
- Additional requirements for food € 100 per month,
- Additional requirements for education and learning materials € 70,
- Additional needs for health and hygiene €50,
- Additional needs for communication €50,
- Additional needs for mobility €50,
- Additional needs for clothing €90.
The fixed amount is €600 per month.
