The vocational school comprises grades 10 to 12 and 10 to 13 and provides a general education and in-depth vocational knowledge in the dual system.
Qualifications: Vocational school certificate, intermediate school certificate, secondary school certificate, entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences

The vocational school is part of the so-called dual vocational training system. Together with the dual partner, the company, it leads to a vocational qualification. The central aim of vocational school is to promote the development of comprehensive vocational and inter-occupational skills.

In addition to subject-specific teaching, lessons also include German, politics and society, religious education and sport (in some cases). Elective subjects can also be offered.

For selected professions, the vocational school also takes over the entire first year of training in the form of a full-time basic vocational school year (BGJ). After successfully completing the BGJ, vocational school students
immediately enter the second year of in-company training.

As a rule, young people who are required to attend vocational school but do not have a training contract are prepared for vocational training, a school-leaving certificate or a job in a full-time vocational preparation program. An external differentiation for the different needs of the heterogeneous target group is made possible by various forms of vocational preparation year (e.g. vocational integration model for young people and young adults with a refugee or migration background or the ESF-funded vocational preparation year "Neustart" for pupils with problems in the socio-emotional area or in learning).
