Purpose of the funding
In the field of art, cultural investments and projects by non-governmental and non-commercial organizations are to be funded. The funding area covers the whole of Bavaria, excluding measures in Munich and Nuremberg.
In the area of education, projects with a cultural focus are to be supported with particular emphasis in the area.
The respective district government in whose region the project is to be carried out is responsible for processing the application. If the project is to be implemented in several administrative districts, the district government in whose region the applicant is based is responsible. For projects in the field of education (projects that do not focus on the presentation/performance of culture and cultural performances in front of an audience, e.g. plays, concerts, readings, exhibitions, but on the joint development of different cultural topics), the "Cultural Education" cultural fund would be relevant.

Cultural investments and projects by non-governmental organizations can be funded from the cultural fund in the area of art, but generally no ongoing operating costs (institutional funding). Start-up funding is possible for regularly recurring events. The projects should generally be of supra-regional or at least supra-local significance; measures with total eligible costs of less than €10,000 are therefore not eligible for funding. The funding area covers the whole of Bavaria; however, projects in Munich and Nuremberg are generally excluded.
Simultaneous funding from other state funding programs (multiple funding) and from funds of the Bavarian State Foundation is generally excluded. Funding is provided in accordance with the budget funds available and is generally limited to a maximum of 30% of the eligible costs.
Grants may only be approved if the project has not yet begun.
Applications must be submitted to the relevant district government via the online platform. The district governments review the applications and submit them to the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs or the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts for a decision.
The decision on applications to the Art Culture Fund is made
- for funding amounts of up to 25,000 euros, usually in April,
- for funding amounts over 25,000 euros, usually at the beginning of May following a decision by the Council of Ministers and approval by the parliamentary committees.
Applications for the Art Culture Fund must be submitted online to the responsible government by October 1 for the following year.
The funding area is the Free State of Bavaria.
There is a funding restriction for art projects in Munich and Nuremberg, for which the Cultural Fund is not open.
