Interpreters and translators working only temporarily in Germany can apply for entry in the interpreters' and translators' database.
The interpreter and translator database forms the basis for courts, authorities and private individuals searching for interpreting and translation services.
Interpreters and translators who are citizens of a European Union or EEA member state can be publicly appointed and sworn in under the same conditions as German citizens. In particular, this requires passing the relevant state or state-recognized examination in Germany or recognition of the respective foreign qualification as equivalent.
Interpreters and translators who are established in another EU or EEA member state and only wish to work in Germany on a temporary and occasional basis can also be entered in the database under the following conditions.
Interpreters and translators who work in Germany only temporarily and occasionally are entered in the interpreters' and translators' database upon request in accordance with Art. 63 AGGVG if they are legally established in another EU or EEA Member State for the purpose of exercising such an activity.
They will also be registered upon application if they can prove that they have worked as a court or official interpreter in their country of establishment for at least one year during the previous ten years.
In both cases, the President of the Regional Court of Munich I is responsible for registration.
Registration must be applied for at the Munich I Regional Court together with the certificate of activity as a court and official interpreter in the country of establishment.
The following information must be provided: First and last name, nationality, profession, address of residence and professional establishment and, if requested, telephone number and internet address.
