Mine surveyors carry out certain tasks in mining as defined in the Federal Mining Act and the Mine Surveyor Mining Ordinance, for example surveying in mining, assessing the geological and geotechnical conditions relevant to safety and can certify facts with public credibility with the so-called "Risswerke" they produce. These activities may only be carried out by persons who can prove their reliability and expertise. This is checked by the recognition authority.
The competent authority checks whether an applicant fulfills the requirements of Section 53a of the Bavarian Mining Ordinance (BayBergV). The requirements are the qualification for higher civil service in the mine surveying field, physical aptitude and the necessary reliability. To this end, the university degree certificates in mine surveying, the certificates of completion of state training (traineeship, assessor in mine surveying), a certificate of good repute and a medical certificate of professional aptitude must be submitted. Recognition will then be granted or refused.
