The approval of private inspection bodies, their monitoring and the withdrawal of approval are the responsibility of the State Agency for Agriculture.

The Bavarian State Institute for Agriculture (LfL) provides information on the necessary application and the requirements for approval as an inspection body for compliance with the specifications in the areas of protected geographical indication (PGI), protected designation of origin (PDO) and traditional specialty guaranteed (TSG). It accepts the application and grants approval if necessary. The approval is the basis for the inspection body's activities (carrying out on-site inspections at the producer's premises) and is granted for a limited period of time.

• Current excerpt from the commercial register/register of associations for applicants from Germany

  or a comparable document for applicants from other EU countries

• Applicants based in EU member states other than Germany:

  Proof of approval of the inspection body, if provided for and granted in the relevant EU Member State.

• Copy of the current articles of association and bylaws of the inspection body
• Current organization chart

  for the area of Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012 Title II (protected origin) and/or for the area of Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012 Title III (traditional speciality).

• Proof of successful accreditation as a product certification body

  on the basis of the standard DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065. Verification for the area of Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012 Title II and/or the area of Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012 Title III

• List of fees of the control body

  for the area of Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012 Title II and/or for the area of Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012 Title III.

• Proof of inspection body,

  ensuring that appropriate confidentiality obligations apply to personnel employed in the course of official controls and other official activities (e.g., model confidentiality agreement)

• Overview of the staffing of the control body

Successful accreditation as a product certification body on the basis of the DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065 standard

The fee for the approval of an inspection body in accordance with Section 5 para. 2 sentence 1 LfLV is between €500 and €1,500, the fee for the extension of the approval in accordance with Section 5 para. 2 sentence 1 LfLV is between €250 and €750 (Ordinance amending the list of costs dated April 13, 2019).
