In Bavaria, over 100 state-funded, easily accessible marriage and family counseling centers offer highly qualified counseling.

In addition to marriage, partnership, family and life counseling, preparation for partnership and marriage, sexual counseling and education about family planning in the sense of responsible parenthood, the range of counseling offered by marriage and family counseling centers also includes counseling in cases of separation and divorce, for single parents, counseling in cases of violence in the family and basic counseling about social assistance for the family.

The marriage and family counseling centers of the dioceses (Catholic Church) and the umbrella organizations of independent welfare services provide this counseling in individual and group sessions across all denominations.

Counseling is generally free of charge. However, the counseling centers are obliged to charge couples and families seeking advice a socially acceptable fee.
