Orphans of victims of both world wars can apply for benefits under the Fourteenth Book of the German Social Code (SGB XIV)

If injured parties die as a result of an injury, their children can receive a monthly compensation payment (MEZ). If injured persons entitled to benefits die from non-injury-related illnesses, an orphan's allowance can be granted under the same conditions as the widow's allowance.

The MEZ is paid to orphans until they reach the age of 18. It is granted until the age of 27 at the latest for orphans who are in school or vocational training, are doing a voluntary social year or are unable to support themselves as a result of physical or mental infirmity.

The amount of the orphan's pension depends on whether one parent is still alive (half-orphan) or whether both parents are deceased (full orphan).

Monthly compensation payment

This is always payable regardless of income and amounts to EUR 408 per month for half-orphans and EUR 638 for full orphans.

After the death of the injured party, his children receive a CET until they reach the age of 18.
