The Free State of Bavaria promotes the purchase of orchard trees. With the Bavarian Orchard Pact, nature conservation and agriculture go hand in hand. The Free State is thus protecting this centuries-old cultural landscape. The aim is to plant 1 million new trees by 2035.
Purpose
In Bavaria, orchards are a form of fruit cultivation that has developed over centuries and is of the utmost importance for the cultural landscape and biodiversity. The cultivation of more than 2,000 fruit varieties ensures a treasure trove of genetic, taste and healthy diversity and was therefore listed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage in Germany in April 2021. The current orchard stock in Bavaria is to be preserved and additional orchard trees planted, as orchards characterize our beautiful cultural landscape, enrich our rural areas and bring us wonderful fruit from regional cultivation.
