Do you have a mental illness or addiction? Do you live with an affected person? The various aids are intended to help you participate in social life again.

The aim of integration assistance is to avoid an imminent mental disability or to eliminate or mitigate the consequences of a disability. Their participation in community life should be maintained or restored after a long hospital stay or prolonged isolation. With appropriate support, they should also be enabled to pursue suitable employment.

You will find support in coping with daily life. These include, in particular, assistance for:

• everyday life (including household organisation, housekeeping/budget planning/finances, media literacy, daily structuring and leisure activities),
• a self-determined and increasingly self-responsible lifestyle
• working
• the promotion of contacts with other official procedures (preparation and support), unless the task of a legal guardian
• Parents in the care and care of their children

Assistance for participation in school education or employment or participation in working life is also part of the support offer.

The aids are usually designed for a longer period of time and individually designed.

The costs of the benefits are borne by the competent local institution for integration assistance or youth welfare if an individual need for support is identified. If necessary, income and assets will be credited.

An informal application to the competent authority is sufficient. They will ask you to use a form and submit further documents. If you have any questions about the documents, the staff on site will advise you.

• the existence of an actual or imminent mental disability - mental illness, addiction (perspective: at least 6 months)

• a restriction of equal participation in community life.

• You should contact the local integration assistance institution responsible for you. There you can ask for advice and support or submit an informal application.
• The competent authority will ask you to fill in a form and submit further documents. In some cases, it may also be necessary to draw up a medical opinion.
• The authority will then carry out a participation or overall plan procedure to determine your individual need for integration assistance. A participation plan procedure is carried out if several institutions pay the necessary benefit, i.e. the health insurance fund, the Federal Employment Agency, statutory accident insurance, war victims' care providers and war victims' welfare, statutory pension insurance or public youth welfare agencies. An overall plan procedure takes place if only the provider of the integration assistance conducts the interview with you to determine the necessary support.
• The form, which is filled out by the responsible employee during the interview, is called Integrated Participation Plan Brandenburg or "ITP" for short.
• If all documents are available, the competent authority will check on the basis of your information whether or to what extent and type you will receive integration assistance.
• After reviewing your application, you will receive a notification of approval or rejection.
• Once you have received a notification of approval, you can search for a suitable service provider.

In the best case, the processing time is up to 5 weeks. If several cost units are involved, processing can take up to 2 months.

The authority to which the application is made must determine within two weeks of receipt of the application whether it is responsible for the application. If the authority is not competent, it shall forward the application without delay.

Many health insurance companies provide very detailed information on the subject of mental health. Information on integration assistance benefits can be obtained from the local integration assistance institution (Sozialamt). Usually you will find contacts and applications on the websites that will help you. Counselling is also offered by the regional offices of the Supplementary Independent Participation Counselling (EUTB), the Contact and Counselling Centres for the Mentally Ill (KBS) and the Counselling and Treatment Centres for Addicts (BBS) in the state of Brandenburg. Other local services where you receive support are, for example, debt counselling, educational counselling, the social psychiatric service.
