Do you want to work in Germany in official food control or as a cross-check expert? Then you need permission to use the professional title "State-certified food technician".
The use of the professional title "Staatlich geprüfte Lebensmittelchemikerin" or "Staatlich geprüfter Lebensmittelchemiker" is regulated in Germany by the individual federal states. This means that the admission or exercise of this profession is bound by legal regulations of the respective federal state to the possession of certain qualifications.
You can only work with the professional title "State-certified food chemist" or "State-certified food chemist" in official food control if you have permission to use the professional title and thus your qualification meets the legal requirements. In order to obtain permission to use the professional title, you must submit an application to the competent authority.
If the examination of your university qualification is positive and you meet other requirements, you will receive permission and may use the professional title "State-certified food chemist".
You must submit a written request. You must attach proof of identification (identity card or passport), a certificate of good conduct and proof of the existence of the training qualification. All documents must be presented as certified copies, if applicable.
Upon application, a permit to use the professional title "State-certified food chemist" or "State-certified food chemist" is granted to anyone who:
- has demonstrably completed a degree in food chemistry of at least eight semesters at a university and/or equivalent higher education institution in the Federal Republic of Germany and has passed the examinations prescribed by the respective training and examination regulations,
- has subsequently completed twelve months' practical training in official food control which meets the requirements of the ordinance issued on the basis of Paragraph 4,
- has passed the state examination to become a state-certified food chemist and
- has not been guilty of conduct resulting in unreliability for the exercise of the profession of food chemist
The competent authority shall decide on the application for authorisation to use the professional title upon receipt of the complete application file.
