Would you like to become self-employed in a health or medical profession? Notify your local health authority of this.

Many healthcare professionals decide to set up their own practice. This applies to the medical and healthcare professions, such as:

• alternative practitioners (limited to the field of psychotherapy/physiotherapy)
• Nurses and pediatric nurses
• Midwives and maternity assistants
• geriatric nursing
• Physiotherapy, physiotherapy
• Masseurs and masseuses
• Medical bath attendants and bath attendants
• Speech therapy
• Occupational therapy, occupational therapy and work therapy
• Orthoptics

The following applies to all professional groups in the healthcare sector: If you wish to practice your profession independently, you must notify the responsible health authority immediately.

Immediate notification to your local health authority is also necessary in the following cases:

• You employ healthcare professionals.
• You offer or provide nursing and care for the elderly in return for payment.

If you are obliged to notify other authorities of such activities under other legislation, you do not need to notify the public health department.

• personal data, such as name, address, etc.
• certified copies of the professional license or permission to use the professional title
• Proof of qualifications, if applicable

• You have taken out professional indemnity insurance.
• There is no obligation to notify other bodies under other legal regulations.

Costs for issuing a certificate, if applicable: EUR 30.00

A notification, for example to register a medical practice, must be made in writing:

• Ask your local health authority whether a notification form is available.
• Submit the notification (the completed form, if applicable) together with the necessary supporting documents to your local health authority.
• Otherwise, please contact your local health authority.
