In order to be admitted to a university, it is generally necessary to have a school-leaving qualification. However, vocationally qualified students who have neither the Abitur nor the Fachhochschulreife can also study at a Fachhochschule or university under certain circumstances.

The decision on the allocation of study places lies with the chosen university.

You should therefore find out in advance from the university of your choice what the requirements are for admission to the desired course of study.

The documents and supporting documents depend on the requirements.

Please enquire at the respective university.

These include, for example

• Master craftsman's certificate (Meisterbrief) or an equivalent authorization
  
• Further training qualification with at least 400 teaching hours (certificate of further training qualification and proof of the duration of the course)
  
• Certificate of competency for nautical or technical ship service with at least 400 hours of instruction (certificate of competency and proof of the duration of the course)
  
• Graduation from a public technical college or a state-recognized independent technical college (certificate from the technical college)
  
• State-regulated advanced training qualification for professions in the healthcare sector or in the field of social care or pedagogical professions (certificate of advanced training qualification)
  
• Completion of lower secondary level and completed vocational training suitable for the course of study and subsequently
  at least two years of professional experience (certificate of completion of lower secondary level, certificate/certificate of professional qualification and proof of professional activity stating type, duration and location)

You should attend a counseling interview at the respective university. The purpose of the interview is to provide early and comprehensive advice on the content, requirements and structure of a course of study.

You will receive written proof of your participation in a counseling interview.

After the counseling interview, apply to the respective university in writing or online.
