The Gymnasium comprises grades 7 to 12 and provides an in-depth general education and includes the course leading to the general higher education entrance qualification. Lessons in secondary level I (7 to 10) are taught in classes. Individual subjects can also be taught in courses. The upper secondary level at the Gymnasium is divided into an introductory phase and a qualification phase.
The Berufliches Gymnasium comprises grades 11 to 13 and is located at an Oberstufenzentrun (OSZ). At the vocational grammar schools, the general higher education entrance qualification can be acquired with a vocational focus. These specializations are social work, technology and economics. The following subjects can be taken accordingly:
- Pedagogy and psychology in a career-oriented form in the social work specialization,
- Electrical engineering, design and media technology or mechanical engineering in the technology specialization and
- Economics with a vocational focus and Business Informatics with a focus on economics.
The upper secondary school at the Berufliches Gymnasium is divided into a one-year introductory phase (year 11) and a two-year qualification phase (years 12 and 13).

The Ü5 and Ü7 procedures cover the respective 2nd school semester; the corresponding timetables are published on the MBJS website and in the official gazette.
The specific dates can be found in the timetables, which are adapted annually to the course of the respective school year.
Ü5 procedure:
- January - end of the application period for the preparation of the elementary school reports
- February - Registration at a comprehensive school or grammar school
Ü7 procedure
- Issue of primary school reports and registration forms with the half-year reports
Applications are submitted to the respective elementary school immediately after the winter vacations (see timetable)
Admission to a secondary general school continues a child's education with the aim of achieving a school-leaving qualification. The following school-leaving qualifications are possible:
- Hauptschulabschluss (in Brandenburg the Berufsbildungsreife - BBR)
- Extended lower secondary school leaving certificate (in Brandenburg the extended vocational training entrance qualification - EBR)
- Realschulabschluss (in Brandenburg the Fachoberschulreife - FOR)
- Abitur
