If another person already pays a broadcasting fee for your apartment, you are exempt from payment.
For citizens, the conversion of contributions will be largely automatic on 01.01.2013.
- informal letter by post or
- completed registration form on the Internet

- if you are of legal age (18 years or older) and
- if you or another person does not yet pay a broadcasting fee for your apartment.
There is no obligation to pay contributions for a vacant apartment. The prerequisite is:

You must register your apartment with the competent authority. You can do this
- do it informally in writing,
- fill in a form, or
- use an online service.
The form is usually available in the municipalities. You can also download it from the Internet.
Hint: If you have previously paid broadcasting fees, these will automatically be converted to the broadcasting fee. You will usually receive mail from the Contribution Service.
Tip: If you do not have the obligation to pay contributions, for example because another resident in the apartment already pays the broadcasting fee, you can deregister from the contribution service.
The obligation to pay contributions begins on the first day of the month in which you first occupy an apartment. This means that you
- live there,
- are registered there, or
- are named as tenants in the rental agreement.
