If you are working with biological substances for the first time, notify the State Office for Occupational Safety, Consumer Protection and Health (LAVG).
As an employer, you must report the following activities involving biosubstances:
1. the first commencement of
a) targeted activities with biosubstances of risk group 2 and with biosubstances of risk group 3 that are marked with (**),
b) non-targeted activities of protection level 2 with biosubstances of risk group 3, including those marked with (**), provided that the activities are targeted at these biosubstances and are to be carried out regularly,
in laboratories, in laboratory animal husbandry and in biotechnology,
2. any change to the permitted or notified activities if these are significant for safety and health protection, for example activities aimed at increasing the virulence of the biosubstance or the inclusion of activities involving other biosubstances in risk group 3 or 4,
3. the commissioning of a patient ward of protection level 4 upon admission of an infected patient and the subsequent decommissioning,
4. the cessation of an activity requiring a permit in accordance with § 15.

Before you as an employer allow biological agents to be handled in your company, notify us in writing:
- An informal notification is sufficient.
- Attach the necessary evidence.
- Submit the notification and the required documents/notifications to the LAVG.
Notification period: no later than 30 days before the start of the above-mentioned activities or the cessation of activities requiring a permit. The commissioning of a patient ward of protection level 4 upon admission of an infected patient and the subsequent decommissioning must be reported immediately.
