What is the content of the integration course?

If you want to live permanently in Germany, you should learn German and have knowledge of the history, culture and legal system of the Federal Republic. You will be supported by the integration course.

By participating in an integration course, you will learn

• to communicate independently in everyday life on German (level B1 of the GER) as well as

• Everyday knowledge about life in Germany and knowledge of our culture and recent history.

The course therefore consists in principle of:

• a language course of 600 lessons (45 min) for learning the German language and

• an orientation course of 100 teaching units (45 min) on the acquisition of everyday knowledge about life in Germany.

Your ability to participate in an integration course depends on your residence status.

COURSE TYPES

Each integration course consists of:

• a language course for learning the German language and

• an orientation course on the acquisition of everyday knowledge about life in Germany as well as on the acquisition of knowledge of the legal system, culture and history of our country.

You must complete both parts of the course with one test each ("German test for immigrants" and test "Life in Germany").

Before you attend the integration course, a placement test takes place. You are assigned to a specific course module based on the test results. If necessary, you may also be advised to attend a special integration course.

The following types of courses are available to you:

General integration course

• The general integration course lasts a total of 700 lessons (45 min) and consists of

• 600 lessons in the language course (6 sections and 100 teaching units in the orientation course.

• Special integration courses

These courses are offered for

• Women
• Parents
• young adults who are no longer required to attend school and have not yet reached the age of 27
• Immigrants who have completed the acquisition of letters in one or more languages with a non-Latin writing system and are alphabetized in those languages (second-letter learning course),
• Immigrants who cannot or cannot read or write sufficiently (literacy course) and
• Persons who have been living in Germany for a long time and have only learned the German language incompletely (promotional courses)

The special integration courses last 1,000 lessons and consist of

• 900 lessons in the language course (9 sections of 100 units) and
• 100 lessons in the orientation course.

An exception among the special courses is the second-type learning course with 600 lessons in the language course and 100 units in the orientation course.

The other exception is the

• Intensive courses
  The intensive courses are suitable for particularly fast learners and highly qualified participants.

  An intensive course lasts a total of 430 lessons and consists of

  • 400 lessons in the language course and

  • 30 lessons in the orientation course.

If you have duly participated in the integration course (exhaustion of your individual hourly quota with regular attendance), but have not successfully completed the German test for immigrants, you have the opportunity to apply to the regional office of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (see WebGIS) for admission to the repetition of 300 teaching units.

If you have recently attended the literacy or second-letter learning course, you must have exhausted your individual hourly quota with regular attendance before submitting the application for admission to the replay, but you must not have completed the German test for immigrants.

Please note that the application for admission to the repetition of 300 teaching units may also result in an application for exemption from the obligation to contribute to the costs. In the event of admission to repetition, the cost exemption is not automatically granted.

To register for an integration course, you need an authorization certificate, which the following authorities can provide:

• Immigration authority (participation or obligation)

• Recipients of basic security (participation obligation)

• Recipients of benefits under AsylbLG (participation obligation)

• Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (admission, admission to repetition)

• Federal Administration Office (confirmation of entitlement for late emigrants)

PARTICIPATION S/COURSE TYPES / COURSE SEARCH

As a non-EU citizen (third-country national foreigner), you are entitled to participate in an integration course,

• if you have obtained a residence permit for the first time after 1 January 2005 and are permanently resident in the Federal Republic of Germany

  • as an employee (Sections 18, 21 AufenthG),

  • for reasons of family reunification (Sections 28, 29, 30, 32, 36 AufenthG);

  • as a long-term resident (Section 38a AufenthG),

• if, after 1 January 2005, you have for the first time obtained a residence or establishment permit for reasons of international law, humanitarian or political law and are permanently resident in the Federal Republic of Germany

  • by order of the Federal Ministry of the Interior for the protection of particularly stored political interests (Section 23 para. 2 AufenthG) or

  • by order of the Federal Ministry of the Interior for the resettlement of persons seeking protection (Resettlement Refugees, Section 23 (4) AufenthG) or

  • in the event of recognition as an asylum-seeker (Section 25 (1) AufenthG) or

  • in the event of granting refugee status or subsidiary protection (Section 25 (2) AufenthG) or

  • as a victim of a criminal offence pursuant to Section 232,233 or 233a StGB after the end of the criminal proceedings, if humanitarian or personal reasons or public interests require further presence in the Federal Territory (Section 25 para. 4a p. 3 AufenthG) or

  • in the case of sustainable integration of patient patients (Section 25b AufenthG).

Furthermore, late emigrants and their spouses or descendants are entitled to free participation in an integration course (Section 9 (1) BVFG). The corresponding confirmation is issued by the Federal Administration Office.

You are not entitled to participate in the integration course if:

• you are a child, adolescent or young adult and you are starting school or continuing your previous school career in the Federal Republic of Germany,

• there is a noticeably low need for integration, or

• if you already have sufficient knowledge of the German language (level B1 of the GER).

In the latter case, however, you have the opportunity to take the orientation course.

You may also be required to participate by an authority. Such an obligation to participate may be considered:

• by the Aliens Authority: If you are entitled to participate and

  • cannot communicate in a simple way, at least in German (level A1 of the CEC) (Section 44a para. 1 p. 1 no. 1 lit. a) or

  • at the time of issue of the residence permit pursuant to Section 23 (2), Section 28 (1) p. 1 no. 1 or section 30 AufenthG do not have sufficient knowledge of the German language (level B1 of the CEC) (Section 44a (1) p. 1 no. 1 lit.b).

The aliens authority may also oblige you to take part in the course when issuing the residence permit in accordance with Section 25 (1) or 2 of the AufenthG (asylum-seeker, granting refugee status or subsidiary protection) if you can only communicate in a simple way in German (level A1 of the GER).

In addition, you are obliged to participate in the integration course if you are in need of integration in a special way and the immigration authority asks you to participate (Section 44a para. 1 p. 1 no. 3 AufenthG).

A special need for integration can be assumed in particular if you, as the holder of the personal care for a minor child living in Germany, do not have sufficient knowledge of the German language (level B1 of the CEC) and therefore you have not yet succeeded in integrating into the economic, cultural and social life of the Federal Republic of Germany without state aid.

• by the carrier of the basic fuse:

  • If you receive unemployment benefit II and participation in the integration course is provided for in the integration agreement according to SGB II (Section 44a para. 1 p. 1 no. 2 AufenthG).

• by the institution of benefits under the Asylum Seeker Benefits Act (Section 44a (1) p. 1 No. 4 AufenthG): If you receive benefits under the Asylum Seeker Benefits Act and

  • as an asylum seeker, have a residence permit in accordance with Section 55(1) of the Asylum Office and you are expected to have a lawful permanent residence (good prospect of staying, which is currently given in the following countries of origin: Eritrea, Iraq, Iran, Somalia and Syria) and the Federal Republic of Germany is responsible for the implementation of your asylum procedure or

  • have a toleration in accordance with Section 60a (2) p. 3 AufenthG, or

  • have a residence permit in accordance with Section 25 (5) Of the AufenthG.

You are exempt from the participation obligation if:

• you are in a vocational or other training in the Federal Republic of Germany,

• you can prove that you have participated in comparable educational opportunities in Germany (e..B public or private schools, vocational schools or private courses offered by employers or other institutions) or

• Their participation is impossible or unreasonable in the long term (e.g. in the case of their own disability or the care of disabled family members).

As part of available course places, you can be admitted by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees to participate in an integration course,

• if you are a German citizen, do not have sufficient knowledge of the German language (level B1 of the CEC) and you have not yet been able to integrate into the economic, cultural and social life in the Federal Republic of Germany without state aid (Section 44 para. 4 p. 2 Alt. 1 AufenthG i.V. .m Section 5 para. 4 No. 4 IntV),

• if you are an EU citizen entitled to free movement or his family members without sufficient language skills (level B1 of the CEC) and you have not yet been able to integrate into the economic, cultural and social life in the Federal Republic of Germany without state aid (Section 11 (1) p. 1 FreizügG/EU i.V.m. Section 44 (4) AufenthG and Section 5 (4) No. 4 IntV),

• if you are a non-EU citizen and have obtained your residence permit before 1 January 2005 (Section 44 (4) p. 1 AufenthG),

• if you are a non-EU citizen who was legally entitled to participate in an integration course but were prevented from participating for reasons for which you are not responsible,

• if you are a non-EU citizen and

  • as an asylum seeker have a residence permit in accordance with Section 55 (1) AsylG and you are expected to have a lawful permanent residence (good prospect of staying, which is currently given to the following countries of origin: Eritrea, Iraq, Iran, Somalia and Syria) and the Federal Republic of Germany is responsible for the implementation of your asylum procedure or

  • have a toleration in accordance with Section 60a (2) p. 3 AufenthG, or

  • have a residence permit in accordance with Section 25 (5) Of the AufenthG.

1. Course costs

For participation in the integration course, a cost contribution must be made to the Federal Office via the course carrier in which you attended the integration course. The person who is obliged to provide you with a living wage is also obliged to pay. The cost contribution must be made at the beginning of each course period.

Each lesson of 45 min currently costs you 1.95 EUR.

• The general integration course and the second-letter learning course cost you a total of EUR 1,365.00 for 600 units of language course and 100 units of orientation course. If 300 units of the language course are repeated, the total amount will increase to EUR 1,950.00.

• The special integration courses cost you a total of 1,950.00 EUR with 900 hours of language course and 100 units orientation course. If 300 units of the language course are repeated, the total amount will increase to EUR 2,535.00.

The intensive course costs you a total of 838.50 EUR (with 400 units language course and 30 units orientation course). If you do not pass the German test for immigrants after exhausting your quota in the language course, you will incur additional costs (200 units of EUR 1.95 each = €390.00 plus, if applicable, 300 units at EUR 1.95 each = EUR 585.00, totalling up to EUR 1,813.50).

2. You do not have to pay course costs in the following cases:

• As a late emigrant (confirmation by the Federal Administration Office), you are always exempt from the course costs.

• In the event of an obligation to participate in the course by the institution of the basic security or the institution of the benefits in accordance with AsylbLG.

• If you are admitted by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, if you are an asylum seeker granted a residence permit in accordance with Section 55 para. 1 AsylG and you are expected to have a lawful permanent residence (good prospect of staying, which is currently given to the following countries of origin: Eritrea, Iraq, Iran, Somalia and Syria) and the Federal Republic of Germany is responsible for the implementation of your asylum procedure or have a tolerance in accordance with Section 60a (2) p. 3 AufenthG or have a residence permit in accordance with Section 25(5) of the AufenthG.

• If, as in the above-case cases, you are not automatically exempt from the obligation to contribute costs, but receive benefits in accordance with SGB II or SGB XII, you have the option - ideally before starting your integration course - to apply for exemption from the cost contribution obligation at the regional office of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (see WebGIS) which is responsible for you.

• Simultaneous application for admission to the integration course and the exemption from costs (foreigners)

• Simultaneous application for admission to the integration course and exemption from costs (German nationals)

• Separate cost exemption application.

• If you do not receive benefits in accordance with SGB II or SGB XII, you can apply to the regional office of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (see WebGIS) for exemption from the obligation to pay contributions in the event of a hardship case upon request. As a rule, a hardship case occurs whenever you can provide proof or the decision of another body on financial need. These include, for example, current decisions on the purchase of

  • Housing

  • Bafög

  • Child benefit supplement

  • remuneration under the Asylum Seeker Benefits Act,

  • exemption from daycare fees,

  • Exemption from GEZ fees or

  • your local social ticket.

• Simultaneous application for admission to the integration course and the exemption from costs (foreigners)

• Simultaneous application for admission to the integration course and exemption from costs (German nationals)

• Separate cost exemption application

If you have to pay for the course yourself, you can request that you get half of your course costs back. This is possible if you have successfully completed the integration course within two years of the first issuance of your eligibility for participation (confirmation of the Federal Administration Office, authorization/obligation of the immigration authority, obligation of the institution of the basic security, obligation of the provider of benefits according to AsylbLG, admission of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees) (existence of the German test for immigrants and the test "Life in Germany"). Have.

Please note that the above-date time limit is an exclusion period. If this period is exceeded, no half of the reimbursement of the costs you have paid, regardless of the reasons given.

3. Reimbursement or subsidisation of your travel expenses

If you have been automatically or upon request exempted from the obligation to contribute to the integration course, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees grants you the reimbursement or subsidisation of your travel expenses (usually for the use of public transport in the amount of the cheapest ticket) on request, provided that you participate properly in the integration course and if there is a need.

There is a need if the distance between your place of residence and the course location you are visiting is more than 3 km and there is no other course carrier within this distance from your place of residence who can provide you with a timely and needs-based course offer.

You can freely select the integration course carrier. However, you will have to pay for travel costs that would not arise if you do not select a timely and needs-based offer available in the immediate vicinity of the apartment.

• All eligible persons (except late emigrants)

• Late settlers

Submit this to the regional office of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees , which is responsible for you (see WebGIS).

To participate in an integration course, you will need a valid authorization certificate, which you can exhibit, depending on your residence status:

• Immigration authority (participation or obligation)

• Recipients of basic security (participation obligation)

• Recipients of benefits under AsylbLG (participation obligation)

If there is an effective date in the authorization certificate, you must register with a course carrier by the end of the validity period. Registration after expiry of the validity is no longer possible.

If you have been obliged to take part in the integration course, you must register immediately and provide proof of this to the obliged body (foreigners' authority, institution of basic security or provider of benefits according to AsylBLG).
