The hunting license is issued by the lower hunting authority if the following conditions are met at the time of application:
- Passed hunter's exam. In Germany, the exact regulation of the hunter's examination is the responsibility of the federal states. The hunter's exam concludes with a complex, three-part, state exam.
- Proof of hunting liability insurance (at least €50,000 for property damage and at least €500,000 for personal injury)
- personal reliability in accordance with the Weapons Act, which requires, among other things, an impeccable certificate of good conduct
- Minimum age 18 years. At the age of 16 at the earliest, the youth hunting license, which is associated with restrictions, can be issued by the lower hunting authority.
- Hunting licences are also available for falconers and foreign citizens.
