Admission of a lawyer from the European Union, the EEA or Switzerland to a German Bar Association

Due to a far-reaching harmonization of the fundamental principles of professional law for lawyers in the member states of the EU, the EEA and Switzerland, it is justified to allow lawyers from these countries to work as lawyers in Germany in accordance with the EuRAG.

In order to enable the admission procedure required under the principles of the Federal Lawyers' Act (BRAO) and also the professional supervision of such colleagues, the so-called "European lawyers" are admitted to the bar associations under their legal home country designation.

Erforderliche Unterlagen

  • Complete curriculum vitae with photograph
  • Proof of nationality pursuant to Section 3 (1) EuRAG
  • Certificate of membership of the profession of European lawyer from the competent authority in the country of origin, not older than 3 months, accompanied by a certified translation (Section 3 (2) EuRAG)
  • Proof of professional liability insurance in the original
  • If applicable, certified copy(s) of the doctoral certificate or other evidence of the acquisition of academic degrees
  • Proof of payment of the administrative fee
