Architektenliste Eintragung

In order to use the professional title architect, urban planner, landscape architect or interior designer, you must be registered with the Chamber of Architects.

The terms architect, interior architect, garden and landscape architect and urban planner are protected professional titles. Only those who are registered with the Chamber of Architects are entitled to use these professional titles. In Brandenburg, this is only possible if the applicant has successfully completed a degree with a total standard period of study of at least four years in the relevant discipline, has two years of practical experience in the relevant discipline and has demonstrably completed further training.

With verification of the certificate of qualification:

• Certified copy of the university certificate and the university diploma (or an equivalent educational institution within the meaning of § 4 BbgArchG)
• Proof of standard period of study for Bachelor's and Master's degree programs
• Official translation of the aforementioned documents for foreign degrees
• Certificate in accordance with the EU Professional Recognition Directive for architects from member states
• University degrees that differ significantly from the requirements of a German degree can be adjusted by means of compensatory measures; see Section 4 (4) and (5) BbgArchG.
• Proof of two years of professional practice in the subject area applied for since graduation; graduates of architecture who began their professional internship after October 15, 2018 must have completed their internship under the supervision of a registered architect.

• Proof of employment contract in the case of salaried employment or employment in the public sector

• Proof of sufficient professional liability insurance for freelance or commercial work
• Certificate of registration of main residence in the state of Brandenburg or proof of predominant employment in the state of Brandenburg
• Copy of payment receipt

Without verification of the certificate of competence:

• Proof of sufficient professional liability insurance for freelance or commercial activities
• Certificate of registration of main residence in the state of Brandenburg or proof of place of business/branch office in the state of Brandenburg or proof of predominant employment in the state of Brandenburg
• Copy of payment receipt

In accordance with § 4 Para. 1 BbgArchG, a person is entered in the list of architects who

• is qualified to fulfill the professional duties as an architect in the respective discipline in accordance with § 3 BbgArchG and
• has their main residence in the state of Brandenburg or has their place of business for their professional activity or their predominant professional occupation.
• has successfully completed a course of study corresponding to the respective specialization with a standard period of study of at least four years at a German university, college, university of applied sciences or equivalent educational institution in accordance with the guidelines on training content set out in the annex to this regulation,
• has subsequently completed at least two years of practical work in the respective field and
• in the case of freelance or commercial work for third parties, has professional liability insurance in accordance with § 10 BbgArchG.

Application fee for entry in the list of architects: € 205.00
Fee for notarization and round stamp: € 65.00

Registration is by written application.

• Download the application form from the website of the Chamber of Architects and fill it out
• Submit the application and other required documents in writing
• The Chamber of Architects will confirm receipt of the documents and certificates to the applicant within one month and inform the applicant of any missing documents and certificates.
• A decision on the application will be made within three months of receipt of the complete documents.
• The registration committee decides on the entry in the list of architects. The registration committee consists of the chairperson and the required number of assessors. The registration committee makes its decisions on the basis of the person chairing the committee or their deputy and four members of staff, at least two of whom must belong to the applicant's discipline.

Entry in the list of architects is made without examination of the qualifications if a deletion from the list of architects did not take place more than two years ago and there are no grounds for refusal.
