The extended certificate of good conduct can be issued for persons who work or are to work with children or young people in a professional, voluntary or other capacity. It serves to protect children and young people. In the interests of effective child and youth protection, convictions for sexual offenses, including low-level criminal convictions, are included in the extended criminal record certificate. This gives employers far more information about the extent to which job applicants have a criminal record for certain sexual offenses against children and young people or for the equally relevant criminal offenses of violating the duty of care or upbringing and the abuse of wards.
The extended certificate of good conduct also contains in particular
- First convictions under 90 daily fines,
- First convictions of less than 3 months imprisonment.
An extended certificate of good conduct must be issued on request if this is provided for in statutory provisions with reference to Section 30a of the Federal Central Criminal Register Act (BZRG) or if the certificate of good conduct is required
- for the examination of personal suitability in accordance with § 72a SGB VIII (child and youth welfare),
- other professional or voluntary supervision, care, education or training of minors or
- for an activity with comparable opportunities for contact with minors
is required.
Examples: Teachers in private schools, lifeguards, school bus drivers, educators in kindergartens, children's or youth homes, caregivers for child day care and full-time care, youth sports coaches, leaders of children's and youth leisure groups, etc.
Applicants can obtain the extended certificate of good conduct with corresponding confirmation for themselves or apply for it to be presented to an authority. In the latter case, it is usually sent directly to the requesting authority. The address of the authority and the file number are required for this.
In addition, a written request must be submitted to the body requesting the extended certificate of good conduct, in which it confirms that the requirements of Section 30a (1) BZRG are met.
