Ausnahme vom Sonn- und Feiertagsfahrverbot: Genehmigung

In Germany, on Sundays and public holidays between 00:00 and 22:00, lorries with a permissible total weight of more than 7.5 tonnes and trailers behind lorries are not allowed to operate.

The prohibition shall not apply to the carriage of fresh milk, fresh meat and fish or perishable fruit and vegetables, to certain combined road-rail freight transport up to a distance of 200 km or port-road transport up to a distance of 150 km.

Under certain conditions, exceptions to the driving ban on Sundays or public holidays may be granted.

Preconditions

An exemption may only be granted if certain conditions are met, such as:

• Supplying the population with perishable food
• Timely loading and unloading of seagoing vessels
• Maintaining the operation of public utilities or transport facilities.

An exemption shall be granted upon written request. Applications can be submitted by fax.

Informal application with justification and certificate of urgency

An individual permit is valid for a journey with a vehicle or a combination of vehicles.

A permanent exemption of up to one year may only be granted if, in addition to the requirements for an individual licence, the need for regular transport is established.

The responsibility lies with the district, the district-free city, the large independent city and the independent municipalities.
