Tuberculosis is a contagious disease. It is an infectious disease that often begins with uncharacteristic symptoms (cough, fatigue, mild fever, etc.), which mainly affects the lungs, but can also affect other organs.

In order to prevent spread in the body and to prevent infection of other people, early detection and the start of drug treatment are important.

Treatment must be carried out lengthy and consistently, otherwise there may be a renewed outbreak of the disease, the ineffectiveness of antibiotics (so-called development of resistance) and further cases of illness due to infection.

Tasks of tuberculosis counselling:

• Identification and examination of contact persons for tuberculosis patients
• Accompaniment and monitoring of outpatient antituberculous therapy
• Possibly carrying out therapy and ensuring it
• Further follow-up after completion of therapy
