Schule des Zweiten Bildungsweges

The second educational path includes the school types evening grammar school and college. Anyone who is at least nineteen years old, can prove that they have completed vocational training or at least three years of professional activity and have obtained an intermediate school leaving certificate (Realschulabschluss) is entitled to attend the Abendgymnasium and the Kolleg. If the school leaving certificate cannot be proven, a preliminary course must first be attended and successfully completed.

School attendance at the Abendgymnasium and Kolleg lasts three years. The aim of the lessons is to obtain the general higher education entrance qualification. The Abitur examination is carried out according to the same procedural rules as at the Gymnasium. It is also possible to acquire the school part of the Fachhochschulreife.
