The issuance of a passport must be requested.
Special conditions apply when issuing for the first time .
- up-to-date biometric-compatible photograph, in passport format (45 x 35 mm) in portrait format, frontal shot without border, without headgear and without covering the eyes
- If applicable, previous passport

last current civil status certificate if no document has yet been issued by the municipality, joint municipality or city in which the main residence is located
The applicant must present himself in person to apply for the passport (e-passport). The application will be filled out on site with the processor. All the applicant has to do is sign and have their fingerprints taken.
It is not possible to extend the period of validity.
Passports that have already been issued will remain valid for up to 10 years after 1 November 2005. This also applies to passports issued between November 2005 and November 2007 that contain only the digital photo.
The passport cannot be taken with you immediately after the application has been submitted, as it is produced at the Federal Printing Office in Berlin. If the passport is needed earlier, an express pass can be requested.
