Heimplatz (Kinder, Jugendliche und junge Erwachsene)

Children, adolescents and young adults who have no parents or do not receive regular care in their parents' home find a home in youth welfare institutions.

The reasons for accommodation in youth welfare institutions vary:

• the death of both parents
• a child does not receive the necessary care and care from his family
• Parents don't feel up to the responsibility of raising a child
• Difficulties at school
• Behavioural problems
• Developmental disorders
• Mental disorders / disabilities

There is a variety of accommodation options for children, adolescents and young adults, such as residential groups, shift work groups, family-like residential groups, educational centers, individual forms of care, 5-day groups, intensive groups, project centers at home and abroad.

The objective of home education is:

• Protection (against child endangerment)
• Return to family
• prepare for education in another family
• offer a long-term life form
• Preparing for an independent life
• Integration assistance for the mentally handicapped
• Mother/father/child care
• Intensive pedagogical / therapeutic aids

Young adults are also entitled to help. Young adults are also admitted and cared for in youth welfare institutions (cf. § 41 Social Code (SGB VIII) - Eighth Book).

The decision on inpatient accommodation is made by the Youth Welfare Office within the framework of assistance planning in accordance with § 36 of the Social Code (SGB VIII) - Eighth Book. Parents cannot make this decision alone.

The Lower Saxony State Office for Social Affairs, Youth and Family, Children, Youth and Family Section, is responsible for the protection of children and young people in institutions.

The responsibility lies with the district and the district-free city.
