A foreign university degree may be used in the form awarded, stating the awarding university. There is neither an evaluation of the university degree nor a formal recognition of the foreign degree.
The conditions under which and in what form a foreign degree may be used are regulated by § 10 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act in the sense of a statutory general licence. The management requirements are to be checked independently by the degree holder.
An evaluation of a foreign university degree and, if necessary, a conversion into a corresponding domestic degree in case of equivalence is only carried out for ethnic German repatriates.
The responsibility lies with the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture.
