You can stand for election yourself in the European elections. This is conditional, among other things, on your eligibility.

Their eligibility is recorded in the official civil register.

If this is not the case and you believe that you are nevertheless eligible, please contact the relevant municipal administration.

• European Election Determination of eligibility
• Prerequisites:
  • German or EU citizenship on election day
  • at least 18 years old
  • as a citizen of a member state of the European Union with residence in Germany or habitual residence in Germany
• ineligible if German nationality, if:
  • excluded from the right to vote or
  • according to a court decision ineligible or not qualified to hold public office,
• Union citizens not eligible if:
  • excluded from the right to vote in Germany, or
  • excluded from the right to vote in his or her country of origin, or
  • ineligible to vote or unable to hold public office in Germany by virtue of a court decision, or
  • has been deprived of the right to stand for election in the country of origin by a civil or criminal court decision
• responsible: Courts, state of origin, mayor or mayoress.
