If you wish to practise the midwifery profession, you must notify the lower health authority of the commencement and termination of this activity.

The notification must contain the following information:
- the start date of professional practice; proof of authorization to use the professional title must be provided,
- the date of birth
- the type of employment,
- the regular weekly working hours for each type of employment
- the areas in which they work
- the address(es) at which the professional activity is carried out and
- ensuring the possibility of receiving messages,
- the date of the last participation in a professional training event
- the number of out-of-hospital births attended each year, including births started out-of-hospital but completed in a clinic
- (annual) participation in quality assurance for out-of-hospital obstetrics, antenatal care and postnatal care
- the existence of professional liability insurance and submission of a copy of the insurance certificate (at least every three years)
- if applicable, the termination of professional practice.
You submit the notification including all necessary documents to the lower health authority in whose area the activity is to be carried out
The start and end of professional practice must be reported immediately. The annual notification must be submitted to the public health department by January 31 of the following year at the latest. Notwithstanding the above, the existence of professional liability insurance must be reported every three years by January 31 after the first notification from the third subsequent year.
- Reporting obligations for practicing the midwifery profession
- The health authority in whose area the midwife has established herself professionally monitors the information, notification and reporting obligations of midwives (reporting obligations in accordance with Section 7 of the Lower Saxony Act on the Practice of the Midwifery Profession (NHebG)). Midwives must provide the health authority with written information about their professional activities without being requested to do so.
