If you need to have your inherited weapons blocked, you must report this to the relevant weapons authority.

If you have inherited weapons and/or ammunition requiring a permit, do not have a weapon possession card and cannot prove a need to possess the inherited weapons, you must render the hereditary weapons unusable or have them equipped with a state-of-the-art blocking system. Ammunition requiring a permit must be rendered unusable or handed over to an authorized person.

The blocking system must be installed by a recognized arms dealer or gunsmith. They will also issue you with proof of installation. The testing of conformity and the approval of newly developed blocking systems in accordance with the Technical Guideline – Blocking Systems for Hereditary Weapons – is carried out by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig. If there is no state-of-the-art blocking system on the market for one or more hereditary weapons, you can apply for an exemption from the obligation to secure all hereditary weapons with a state-of-the-art locking system.

Identity card or passport (copy)

Proof of installation of a blocking system or proof that there is no blocking system on the market.

They inherited weapons.

You have had a state-of-the-art blocking system installed in your hereditary weapon(s) or can prove that there is no corresponding blocking system on the market for all hereditary weapons.

You must notify the competent weapons authority of the installation of the blocking system or apply for an exemption from the obligation to install the blocking system. Submit the notification or application together with the required documents.

There is no deadline.

In order to be able to fill out the notification or application more quickly, you can use the NWR identification numbers (NWR ID):

Your Personal NWR ID (P or F NWR ID) for your personal information

the Permit NWR ID for the Weapons Permit (E-NWR ID)

the weapon or weapon part NWR ID (W or T-NWR ID).

You can obtain the NWR IDs upon application from the responsible weapons authority.
