You may only use the title "Testing Expert for Technical Installations" in a specific field of study if you are recognized in this field and field.

Testing experts for technical systems can be recognized in various disciplines:

In the field of supply engineering, these are the sub-specialties that include the following facilities:

• ventilation systems, including pressurized ventilation systems,
• CO warning systems,
• natural and mechanical smoke extraction systems and
• Fire extinguishing systems

and, in the field of electrical engineering, the sub-disciplines, which include the following facilities:

• fire detection and alarm systems,
• Emergency lighting and power supply systems and
• electrical installations.

In the recognition procedure, it is checked whether you meet the recognition requirements, in particular whether you have the necessary expertise for the job. In order to determine whether you have the necessary expertise, an examination will be taken at a body designated by the district government. In addition to working on written and practical tasks, you must also prove your knowledge in a technical discussion. After state recognition, inspection experts (§ 3 of the Ordinance on the Inspection of Technical Installations and Periodic Inspections of Special Buildings - Test Ordinance - PrüfVO NRW) are entitled to test technical systems as well as the fire protection measures required by building regulations for their effectiveness and operational safety.

• Certified copy or copy of birth certificate
• Curriculum vitae with complete information on the professional career and professional practice up to the time of application,
• in each case, a certified copy or photocopy of the school's degree certificate as well as all certificates of previous employment,
• Proof of the application for a certificate of good conduct for submission to an authority (document type O or P) or an equivalent document from a Member State of the European Union, which should not be older than three months,
• a declaration by the applicant that he or she will only carry out examinations to the best of his or her knowledge and belief and that his or her impartiality is maintained, and
• List of the applicant's testing equipment and the tools and facilities that can be used at short notice

In order for you to be recognized as an expert for one or more of the above-mentioned (sub-)disciplines, you must:

• prove that you have your main residence, your branch office or your main professional activity in North Rhine-Westphalia,
• prove that you are entitled to use the professional title of "engineer" on the basis of the Engineering Act of 5 May 1970 (GV. NRW. P. 312), last amended by the Act of 28 May 2013 (GV. NRW. P. 272), and that you have at least five years of professional experience in the field in which you wish to carry out the testing activity,
• possess the necessary expertise in the field to which your expert activity relates and have the necessary testing equipment and aids,
• according to your personality, offer a guarantee that you are up to the tasks of an expert and that you will perform them impartially and conscientiously,
• prove that you are not an expert in the field of construction that has already been recognised by building authorities in other countries, and
• prove that you have not yet reached the age of 70

You can submit the application for recognition as an expert in writing or electronically. You must attach the above-mentioned documents to the application.

The expertise required for recognition in the applied field of study must be proven by an examination in accordance with § 5 para. 1, § 5a PrüfVO NRW.

The exam consists of a written and an oral-practical part. Only those who have successfully completed the written part will be admitted to the oral practical part.

For the sub-disciplines of supply engineering, the examination is carried out either by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of the Stuttgart Region or the Brandenburg Chamber of Engineers.

For the sub-disciplines of electrical engineering, the examination is carried out either by the Saarland Chamber of Industry and Commerce or the Brandenburg Chamber of Engineers.

The documents for registration for the exam are automatically forwarded to the responsible Chamber of Industry and Commerce or to the Brandenburg Chamber of Engineers.

Please note that costs are charged by the respective chamber for the examination, which must be paid there immediately. All costs of the examination and other expenses in connection with the examination are borne by you as the applicant.

Only when it is possible to assess all of the above-mentioned requirements on the basis of the submitted documents and, in particular, when proof of competence has been provided or could not be provided by the results of the examinations, will the competent authority decide on your application for recognition.

The competent authority will decide on your application for recognition at short notice, at the latest three months after the complete documents have been submitted (§ 6 para. 5 PrüfVO NRW).
