Processes that lead to the removal of asbestos-containing surfaces, such as sanding, pressure cleaning, brushing and drilling, are prohibited, except in the case of so-called low-emission processes.
The following are also prohibited:
- Roofing, superstructure and elevation work on asbestos-cement roofs and wall cladding
- Cleaning and coating work on uncoated asbestos-cement roofs and wall cladding
Materials containing asbestos resulting from demolition, remediation and maintenance work must be disposed of as waste.
The notification must be made by the employer at least seven days before the start of the activities and must contain at least the following information:
- location of the place of work,
- types and quantities of asbestos used or handled;
- activities carried out and procedures used,
- Name and qualifications of the responsible person in the company
- number of employees involved,
- the start and duration of the activities,
- Measures to limit the release of asbestos and to limit the exposure of workers to asbestos.

For the employment of experts in accordance with TRGS 519 (No. 5 TRGS 519) for work with weakly bound asbestos, a licence as a factory is also required.

- In order to be able to determine what personnel and safety equipment is required for your job, you must first determine as part of your risk assessment whether asbestos is present in a solid or weakly bound form. Information on whether asbestos is present or to be expected in accordance with the history of use or construction of the property must be obtained from the client or client.
- On the basis of the results of your preliminary investigation, the necessary occupational health and safety measures and the work procedure to be applied must be determined.
- You then draw up a work plan. In it, you will explain which working methods and equipment are used to remove and dispose of asbestos and asbestos-containing materials.
- On the basis of the risk assessment and the work plan, you have to instruct your employees in relation to the work to be performed.
- If the above requirements are met, you must notify the respective district government as the responsible occupational health and safety authority of the work at least seven days before the start of the activity.
- In exceptional cases, it is possible to shorten the deadline by applying for it in writing.
