If you intend to continue an already registered temporary activity as an interpreter or translator in Lower Saxony beyond the duration of one year for a further year, you must notify the Regional Court of Hanover in good time.
The general swearing-in of interpreters and the authorization of translators to translate for judicial, official and notarial purposes for the territory of the state of Lower Saxony is carried out upon application to the Regional Court of Hanover.
If you only wish to work temporarily and occasionally in Lower Saxony and your place of residence is
- in another member state of the European Union,
- in a signatory state to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or
- in a country to which the member states of the European Union are obliged under treaty law to treat its nationals equally with regard to the recognition of professional qualifications (country of establishment),
you can, under certain conditions, apply to be included in the list of sworn interpreters and authorized translators for a period of one year and, during this time, exercise the activity with the same rights and obligations that apply to sworn interpreters and authorized translators in Lower Saxony.
If you wish to exercise your temporary activity in Lower Saxony for a further year, you must notify the Regional Court of Hanover in good time before the end of the one-year period.
If the activity as an interpreter and/or translator is regulated in the country of establishment, a current certificate that you
- in a member state of the European Union,
- in a state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or
- in a country to which the member states of the European Union are obliged under treaty law to treat its nationals equally with regard to the recognition of professional qualifications,
are legally licensed to provide oral and/or written language interpretation for judicial, official and notarial purposes or for comparable activities and you are not prohibited, not even temporarily, from working at the time of submitting the certificate.
If the activity as an interpreter and/or translator is not regulated in the country of establishment, proof that you have legally exercised the activity in the country of establishment for at least one year during the previous years.
The extended exercise requires that you continue to be legally authorized at your place of residence for oral and/or written voice transmission for judicial, official and notarial purposes or comparable activities. You must not be prohibited, even temporarily, from exercising this activity at the time of notification of the extension. A current certificate of this must be submitted.
If the activity is not regulated in your country of establishment, it is sufficient to submit proof that you have lawfully exercised the activity in the country of establishment for at least one year during the previous ten years.
As soon as you have notified the Regional Court of Hanover of the extension of your temporary activity, the President of the Regional Court of Hanover will register you in the register of sworn interpreters and authorized translators for a further year if the requirements are met. An extension is possible repeatedly.
The extension of the temporary activity must be reported to the Hanover Regional Court in good time before the end of the one-year period. To ensure that further registration takes place in good time, you should submit the notification at least one month before the end of the one-year period.
No legal remedy, as only the intended continuation of the temporary activity is notified.
