Do you want to operate a low-frequency system or a direct current system? Then, under certain conditions, you must report them to the responsible immission control authority.

As an operator of a low-frequency system with a nominal voltage of 110 KV or more or a DC system, you are obliged to notify the competent authority of this before commissioning or a significant change.

The competent authority examines the notification and records the installation in its plant register.

The prerequisite is that:

• the installation is located on a plot of land in the area of a development plan or within a built-up district or on a plot of land built up with residential buildings in the outer area or crosses such plots,
• the installation or its substantial modification does not require a permit, planning approval or other official decision in which the interests of immission control are taken into account.

The notification must be submitted in writing by post or electronically to the competent authority.

The processing takes place promptly after receipt of the notification.

The notification must be submitted to the competent authority at least two weeks before the installation is put into operation or before a significant change is made to the installation.

Since this is a notification procedure, this administrative service does not constitute an administrative act. For this reason, there is no legal remedy.

In Lower Saxony, responsibility lies with the lower building supervisory authorities of the districts, cities or municipalities in which the plants are to be operated. In special cases, the State Office for Mining, Energy and Geology is also responsible.
