Since a new identification card in credit card format has been introduced since 01.01.2013, an extension of severely disabled passes may no longer be technically possible. When the validity expires, the severely disabled person's pass must be re-applied for.

• If applicable, previous severely disabled person's pass

• Possession of a severely disabled person's pass

There are no fees.

The competent authority will automatically write to you 6 to 8 weeks before the expiry of the validity and ask you to apply again.

The severely disabled pass can be extended on one of our consultation days. Dates and locations of the consultation days can be viewed on the website of the Lower Saxony State Office for Social Affairs, Youth and Family.

When the validity of your previous severely disabled pass expires, the new identification card must be applied for.

The responsibility lies with the Lower Saxony State Office for Social Affairs, Youth and Family or its branch offices.

The re-application for the severely disabled person's pass can be made informally, via the letter sent or the form provided on the website of the responsible office.
