In addition to a change of surname, a new passport must be issued if the following data are changed:
- Forename
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
The issuance of a new passport is only necessary if the passport continues to be used.
- up-to-date biometric-compatible photograph, in passport format (45 x 35 mm) in portrait format, frontal shot without border, without headgear and without covering the eyes
- previous passport
- official proof of the change

The passport cannot be taken with you immediately after the application has been submitted, as it is produced at the Federal Printing Office in Berlin. If the passport is needed earlier, an express pass can be requested.
If the following dates are changed, a new passport must be issued:
- Forename
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
- Acquisition of a foreign nationality
The responsibility lies with the municipality, the joint municipality and the city in which the main residence is.
