As an adult you have to pay a broadcasting fee for your apartment.

If another person already pays a broadcasting fee for your apartment, you are exempt from payment.

• informal letter by post or
• completed registration form on the Internet

• Adult citizen

You must register your apartment with the competent authority. All you need to do is send an informal letter to the responsible office or you can use the online registration on the Internet.

Start of the obligation to contribute

The obligation to pay contributions begins on the first day of the month in which you first occupy an apartment.

This means:

• live there,
• or are registered there,
• or are named as tenants in the rental agreement.

End of contribution obligation

The obligation to contribute ends at the end of the month in which this is notified. The prerequisite is that the tenancy has ended at that time and the residents have moved out.

Special regulations apply to companies, institutions and self-employed persons.

There is no obligation to pay contributions for a vacant apartment. Prerequisite is:

• that it is not inhabited by anyone, and
• for which there is no rental agreement and
• for which no person is registered at the Residents' Registration Office.
