In the interest of the administration of justice or to avoid hardship, the competent authority may exempt a lawyer from the law firm obligation according to § 29 Bundesrechtsanwaltsordnung (BRAO).

No documents are required.

• Citing a reason for exemption. Examples include:
  • Illness
  • Old age
  • Further training abroad
  • Establishment of a law firm exclusively in another state – unless overriding interests of the administration of justice conflict with the administration of justice

Fees are payable in accordance with the fee regulations of the competent authority.

There are no deadlines to be observed.

In the interest of the administration of justice or to avoid hardship, a lawyer may be exempted from the duty of the law firm.

The jurisdiction lies with the Bar Association.

This procedure can also be carried out through a "Point of Single Contact". The "Point of Single Contact" is a special service offered by municipalities and the state for service providers.
