If you have been entered in the Register of Craftsmen with your craft requiring a license, you will receive a craft card as proof.

You must be registered in the Register of Craftsmen if you wish to work independently in a craft requiring a license in Germany. This also applies if you only want to carry out a significant part of a craft requiring a license on a self-employed basis.
Registration in the Register of Craftsmen is possible for

• natural or legal persons and
• partnerships with legal capacity.

The Chamber of Skilled Crafts issues a certificate of registration in the form of a skilled crafts card. The following is noted on the craftsman's card

• Name and address of the owner,
• place of business,
• the craft requiring a license to be operated or the crafts requiring a license to be operated,
• Date of registration,
• if applicable, the name of the company management or the partner responsible for technical management.

You do not need to renew the craft card annually, as it remains valid until the data provided changes.

You apply for entry in the Register of Craftsmen and receive the Craftsman's Card as proof of your successful registration.

• Craftsman's card:
  • is issued automatically after successful entry in the Register of Craftsmen
  • does not have to be renewed annually
  • includes:
    • Name and address of the owner,
    • place of business,
    • the craft or crafts requiring a license to be operated,
    • the date of registration,
    • if applicable, the name of the company management or the partner responsible for technical management

Responsibility lies with the Chamber of Crafts in whose district the company is based.
