Kulturdenkmal: Forschung/Grabung - Genehmigung

Excavations for cultural monuments, salvage of cultural monuments from bodies of water and earthworks at a place where cultural monuments are suspected in the ground require the approval of the competent authority.

Approval may be granted subject to conditions, e.g.

• management of the action by an expert,
• type of planning and execution,
• Treatment, safeguarding and documentation of archaeological finds,
• Coverage
• final preparation of the excavation or discovery site.

• informal application
• the documents required for the assessment, e.g. site plan, cadastral map or base map with entries

There are no fees.

There are no deadlines to observe.

Earthworks and construction works in which it is suspected that cultural monuments will be discovered require a permit.

Projects in excavation protection areas that may endanger hidden cultural monuments require the approval of the competent authority. As a rule, agricultural and forestry use does not require a permit.

The responsibility lies with the lower monument protection authority or the commissioner for the archaeological preservation of monuments in the district or municipality, which is responsible for the task of the lower building supervisory authority.
