If you wish to be employed in the preparatory service or school service for the corresponding teaching profession, an examination of the equivalence of your teacher training examination or teaching qualification acquired in another federal state is required in exceptional cases.

Determination of the equivalence of a teacher training examination obtained in another federal state with a Rhineland-Palatinate Bachelor's and Master's degree or a teaching qualification with a Rhineland-Palatinate qualification for the corresponding teaching profession.

When examining the equivalence of the teacher training examination or the teaching qualification within the framework of the application procedure for employment in the preparatory service or school service, the required documents can be removed from the applicant information, which can be found on the homepage of the Supervisory and Services Directorate in Trier under the following links:

In the case of an examination of the equivalence of the teacher training examination outside the recruitment procedure for the preparatory service, the following documents must be attached to the application:

• officially certified copy of the certificate of scientific competence (certificate of the First State Examination, of the Bachelor's and Master's degrees or of an equivalent),
• Further documents required to determine the equivalence of the teacher training examination can be requested later.

In the case of an examination of the equivalence of the teaching qualification outside the recruitment procedure for the teaching profession, the following documents must be attached to the application:

• officially certified copy of the certificate of scientific competence (certificate of the First State Examination, of the Bachelor's and Master's degrees or of an equivalent),
• officially certified copy of the pedagogical qualification (certificate of the Second State Examination or an equivalent),
• Further documents required to determine the equivalence of the teaching qualification may be requested.

There are no fees.

The decision on the equivalence of a teacher training examination acquired in another federal state with the Rhineland-Palatinate Bachelor's and Master's degree for the corresponding teaching profession or a teaching qualification with the Rhineland-Palatinate qualification for the corresponding teaching profession is generally made within the framework of the application procedure for employment in the preparatory service or school service. A separate application for determination of the equivalence of the teacher training examination or the teaching qualification is not required.

If, exceptionally, a decision on the determination of equivalence is required outside the recruitment procedure, a written request must be submitted.

According to the Higher Education Act, foreign higher education entrance qualifications of persons applying for a course of study are recognised by the respective higher education institution for access to the desired course of study. This applies regardless of whether the applicant's place of residence is within or outside Rhineland-Palatinate and regardless of their nationality.
However, this recognition takes place exclusively in relation to the chosen course of study, i.e. the higher education institution checks whether the applicant has the general and specific admission requirements for the chosen course of study and, if necessary, he or she is admitted to the course in question.
A general recognition of the university entrance qualification, on the other hand, does not take place by the university, i.e. the applicant does not receive a certificate from the university confirming the equivalence with, for example, the German Abitur in general.
Such "general" recognition, which applies nationwide, is granted to applicants residing in Rhineland-Palatinate by the Supervisory and Services Directorate (ADD) Trier.

If, in exceptional cases, a separate decision is made on the equivalence of the teacher training examination or teacher training qualification, please contact the Ministry of Education (Department 2).
