If you would like to work as an expert or expert in the mining sector, you will need official recognition under certain conditions. To do this, you must submit an application to the relevant mining authority.
In the mining sector, officially recognised experts may be responsible for the inspection and acceptance of certain facilities and activities. If you wish to work as an expert, you must apply for official recognition.
However, the competent mining authority may limit your recognition objectively, limit it for a limited period of time and impose conditions.
- Proof of specialist knowledge, e.g. in the form of a degree certificate
- for proof of personal reliability:
- If you live in Germany: Certificate of good conduct (not older than 3 months at the time of application)
- If you live abroad: Documents from your home country proving your personal reliability
- Proof of the specific professional qualifications for the technical examinations to be carried out, in particular the knowledge

- of the relevant legislation
- Proof that you are carrying out the activity on your own responsibility and independently of the employer, client and third parties, for example
- Declaration by the employer that you are in active professional life and that you are free from instructions from superiors or your employer in the performance of your auditing activities

- Proof of regular participation in further training and topic-related exchange of experience, e.g. certificates, transcripts, certificates of participation
- You must meet the following criteria:
- There are no known facts that make you appear unreliable for the activity as an expert.
- They are mentally and physically fit for the intended expert activity. The competent authority may carry out an audit or technical discussion with appropriate professionals to verify your information in this regard.
- You are technically competent, which means:
- You have passed a professionally relevant final examination recognised in the European Union or the European Economic Area at a university, technical college, technical college or technical school, or
- You have acquired a comparable above-average level of expertise in other ways, in particular through relevant vocational training recognised as equivalent, and
- They possess the special professional qualification for the specific activities to be carried out, including knowledge of the relevant rules of technology and the relevant legal provisions, usually proven by at least five years of practical experience in the relevant field. The competent authority may carry out an audit or technical discussion with appropriate professionals to verify your information in this regard.
- They have the necessary facilities and, where appropriate, appropriately qualified and experienced staff.
- You must ensure that you and your employees work impartially and independently and comply with the obligations of recognised experts.
- If you are in an employment relationship or service relationship, you must also prove that:
- your employment contract complies with the above-mentioned conditions and that you are able to carry out your expert work in person,
- you are not bound by any instructions in your work as an expert and can sign the results of your work yourself, and
- Your place of work gives you time off to the extent necessary for the work of an expert.
- You must have liability insurance for your expert work.
- The amount and scope of the liability insurance must correspond to the risks of your expert work. If the liability insurance only partially covers the risks, additional security may be required to cover the risks that are not covered.
- If you are resident in another member state of the European Union or another state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, it may also be a liability insurance policy with an insurance company from this EU/EEA state.
You can apply for recognition online via the "BergPass" platform or directly at your local mining authority.
Apply for recognition online:
- Go to the online platform "BergPass" and log in.
- To register, you will need a BundID and an identity card or residence permit with an active online ID function.
- Go to the application and fill it out completely and truthfully.
- Upload the required documents as a file and submit the application.
Applying for recognition directly from the competent authority:
- Get in touch with your local mining authority and agree on the necessary application documents.
- Submit the application and all required documents by mail.
Further steps in the procedure:
- The competent authority will examine your application and the documents submitted. If documents are missing, they will contact you.
- You will receive a notification informing you of the decision on your application. In addition, the notification is delivered electronically in advance to the respective mailbox (BundID or ELSTER company account) and information is displayed in BergPass.
You will also receive a notice of costs. Pay the fees.
